About The Boys' Brigade

Our Founder: Sir William Alexander Smith

History: The Boys' Brigade was founded on 4 October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith at the Free Church Mission Hall at North Woodside Road in Glasgow. Sir William Alexander Smith devised a unique system of giving Boys an organization as part of the church based on the twin pillars of religion and discipline. The First Glasgow Company was the first BB Company. Sir William Alexander Smith was born on 27 October 1854 at Pennyland House, Thurso, Scotland.


The BB Object & Motto

Object: The object of the Boys' Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.

Motto: The motto Sure and Steadfast was taken from the latter part of the verse Hebrews 6:19


About The Boys' Brigade in Singapore

History: James Milner Fraser started the Boys' Brigade in Singapore on 12 January 1930; he started 1st Singapore Company at Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. In 1940, he handed captaincy of the 1st Singapore Company to Mr S P Chua.

About Our Company

The Boys' Brigade, 61st Singapore Company is a Uniformed Group (UGP) based in Queensway Secondary School, with Church of Our Saviour as its sponsoring church.

The 61st Singapore Company was founded in 1991 at Sin Ming Residents' Committee. We started with Mr Victor Aw as Captain and Pastor Peter Teo as Chaplain. The company moved to Queensway Secondary School in 1999. Since then, the company has seen many Boys through their growth and development in their character, leadership and social skills.
